Mesh Agrees to Form Japan Joint Venture with SBI and Money Forward

Hike Ventures portfolio company Mesh has agreed with SBI Holdings and Money Forward to establish a joint venture in Japan focused on digital asset connectivity, payments, and on-chain financial infrastructure.

The three companies plan to build infrastructure that connects crypto exchanges, wallets, and other digital asset services through APIs, making it easier for users and businesses to buy, transfer, send, and use digital assets. Subject to final agreements, regulatory procedures, and other requirements, the joint venture is expected to be established in 2026.

Mesh provides infrastructure connecting more than 300 platforms, including crypto exchanges and wallets, enabling digital assets to move more seamlessly across otherwise fragmented financial services.

The joint venture will combine Mesh’s API connectivity and technology with SBI Group’s financial services infrastructure and regulatory expertise in Japan. Money Forward, an existing shareholder of Mesh, will also support the company’s expansion in the Japanese market.

The planned company, Mesh SBI Money Forward Network KK, is expected to be owned 60% by Mesh, 26% by SBI Group, and 14% by Money Forward.

Beyond connecting exchanges and wallets, the companies plan to explore infrastructure for stablecoin payments, tokenized assets, and other digital financial services. The initiative represents a step toward connecting digital assets, stablecoins, tokenized assets, and fiat currencies within a more seamless financial infrastructure in Japan.
