Hike Venturesの投資先であるMatic Robotsが、家庭用ロボット掃除機「Matic」に、音声とジェスチャーで掃除する場所を指定できる新機能「Matic Cues」を追加しました。今回のアップデートはThe Vergeでも紹介されています。
Maticは、5台のカメラとComputer Visionを活用し、床材や障害物を認識しながら掃除と水拭きを行う家庭用ロボットを開発しています。Matic Cuesでは、「Hey Matic」と話しかけながら汚れた場所を指すと、音声が聞こえた方向とユーザーのジェスチャーを認識し、指定された場所まで移動して掃除することができます。ユーザーの後を追って移動することも可能です。
音声操作にはGoogle Gemini APIを活用し、75以上の言語に対応しています。一方、「Hey Matic」という起動音声やジェスチャーの認識は端末上で処理され、カメラ映像がクラウドに送信されることはありません。起動後の音声指示のみを匿名化した上でGemini APIに送り、内容を解析します。将来的には、利用頻度の高い20〜30程度のコマンドを端末上で処理できるようにする計画です。
Maticはこれまでに1.3万台以上を販売しており、将来的にはロボット掃除機にとどまらず、家庭内でさまざまな役割を担うロボットへと展開していく構想を掲げています。
家庭という複雑な環境の中で、音声、視覚、ジェスチャーを組み合わせながら人の意図を理解する。今回のアップデートは、Maticが目指す家庭用ロボットの姿を示す一歩となっています。

Hike Ventures portfolio company Matic Robots has added a new feature called “Matic Cues” to its home robot vacuum, Matic, allowing users to direct the robot to clean specific areas using voice commands and gestures. The update has also been featured by The Verge.
Matic develops a home robot that uses five cameras and computer vision to recognize floor types and obstacles while vacuuming and mopping. With Matic Cues, users can say “Hey Matic” while pointing at a mess, and the robot can identify the direction of the voice and the user’s gesture before moving to the specified area to clean it. It can also follow the user as they move around the home.
Voice interactions are powered by the Google Gemini API and support more than 75 languages. At the same time, wake-word detection for “Hey Matic” and gesture recognition are processed on-device, and camera footage is not sent to the cloud. Only voice instructions after activation are anonymized and sent to the Gemini API for interpretation. Matic also plans to move 20–30 of the most frequently used commands to on-device processing in the future.
Matic has sold more than 13,000 units to date and ultimately aims to expand beyond robot vacuums into a broader range of home robots capable of taking on different roles around the household.
Homes are complex environments, and robots need to understand human intent by combining voice, vision, and gestures. This update represents another step toward the kind of home robotics platform Matic is working to build.
